With Pokemon Black and White only a month away from Japanese release, now is probably the best time for us to refresh your memory on anything and everything that we know about the upcoming games. We here at VGTribune have gathered every little detail of information that we have on the titles and, better yet, we’ll be updating this story with more information as it floods in within the coming weeks.

Grab a cup of Joe (or, if you prefer, tea), sit in your most relaxing chair and get your reading glasses out because this is going to be a LOT of information to take in.

The “special edition” of the popular dating simulation Love Plus, Love Plus+ , was released on Nintendo DS in Japan a mere three days ago and video game pirates have already tried to rip the game and share it with their lovesick buddies. Little do these lonely pirates know that if they play the pirated version of the game, the virtual girls that inhabit the game will never become interested in them, no matter how many compliments and gifts they throw at them.

According to game pirates on the popular anonymous video game message boards 2ch and 4chan, a variety of countermeasures have been put in place by the developers to ensure that gamers pirating the title will never have their dates accepted by Nene and the other virtual girls in the game.

The following hysterical quotes are from pirates on 2ch, courtesy of Sankaku Complex: Read the rest of this entry »

If you just love your primary colors, Nintendo has you covered if you’re in Japan at least. Today Nintendo announced plans to release yellow, green and blue versions of the DSi XL.

We’d love to take the yellow flavored DS and paint a big ol’ question mark on it to make it resemble quite a few blocks in the Mushroom Kingdom.

Recently, one of my room-mates got back into the Pokemon craze after many years away from the franchise. And, because he was playing the game again, I decided to boot back up my Pokemon Platinum and play against him in anticipation of the U.S. release of Heart Gold and Soul Silver. Eventually, we both purchased copies of the games, played the heck out of the Gold and Silver remakes, then Nintendo announced Pokemon Black and White, the next generation of Pokemon games, and our excitement peaked once more. However, while playing through Platinum and Heart Gold, the Nintendo fanboy inside of me finally came to the realization that these games, despite a few gameplay changes over the years, really haven’t changed their core experiences all that much and the formula of capturing wild Pokemon, capturing a legendary, defeating the Elite Four, and enjoying the meta-game has gotten a little stale.

Now, it’s not to say that I don’t love the Pokemon series anymore. I do, it’s just that I feel that with a little more tweaking other gamers and critics who have since fallen out of love with the series would be able to enjoy the games again. But what would it take? How can Nintendo revitalize a series in the eyes of the “hardcore” that is still so successful? After some thinking, I came up with three major changes that Nintendo and Game Freak could incorporate to breathe new life into the series and maybe, along the way, re-gain the hearts of old fans who have since become sick of the same “Pokemon formula”.

Check them out after the jump!

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 hasn’t even released yet (disregarding the full game’s leak on /v/ a month or so back) and we’re already getting another Sonic game? Here’s hoping that SEGA learned their lesson after Sonic Unleashed and finally realized that having Sonic transfrom into a Werehog was not a good idea.

That said, the CG teaser trailer for their newset title, Sonic Colors, looks extremely promising so I’ll withold judgement on the title until I play it at E3.

I’ve included the official press release from the SEGA Blog along the announcement trailer after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

Well here it is people, the shadows that you have been waiting to see! Silhouettes of the starting Pokemon from Black and White. Wow.. I reckon that the left one is fire, the top one is leaf and the right one of water myself. But what do you think? Are you looking forward to another Pokemon game? Please tell us in the comments.

The full reveal will be made in the next episode of Pokemon Sunday, although since CoroCoro magazine’s next issue also has the scoop chances are we’ll find out way before the episode airs.

Name: Mario and Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story (or Mario and Luigi RPG 3)
Release Date: 9/14/09
Genre: RPG
Rating: E

Mario and Luigi are back in their third handheld adventure of the Mario and Luigi RPG series. Starting on the Gameboy this series has been known for quirky RPG fun using the beloved Nintendo mascots. I am happy to say Bowser’s Inside Story keeps the tradition of being a great game in the franchise.

Mario and Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story may in fact be the best game in the series. The game is innovative, fun, funny, and challenging all at the same time. It is the game that dominated last years DS game of the year, and after playing I know for a good reason. The basic premise of the game is that Fawful, a character that is known from the previous games, has decided that he wants to take over the mushroom kingdom. So basically Bowser gets tricked into sucking up much of it, including Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Starlow . So Mario and Luigi must help Bowser punch stronger, go into super mode, and other powers from inside his body while Bowser chases after Fawful from outside. There is about equal time with each, though the focus of the game really does feel more like Bowser. The story throughout is always very entertaining while all at the same time having a comedic feel.

Nintendo’s feature primetime advertisement featuring popular UK duo Ant and Dec has been named one of the most annoying adverts of 2009 according to a survey carried out by Adwatch.

Nintendo picked Ant and Dec because of their mainstream appeal to wide audiences ranging from children to grandmas. The ads they star in highlight the many faces of Nintendo including the Wii, DS and several of Nintendo’s family friendly titles such as Mario Kart.

Marketing Magazine lists the ad as tied for ninth most annoying advert of 2009. At the top of the rankings were GO Compare’s ‘ANNOYING’ opera singer followed by Cash4Gold, Glade Touch ‘n’ Fresh and very surprisingly the 188 247 advert (Created by Weebl, from Weebl and Bob).

It’s not just about being annoying says Andy Nairn of ad agency MCBD:
