Super Smash Bros for Nintendo 3DS Demo Available to Platinum Club Nintendo Members

[UPDATE]: I forgot to mention that the reason for the demo codes expiring on September 19th is that on that day another version of the demo will be made available free to the public.  This version of the demo will have the normal “30 plays” limit, where as the demo you get from the Platinum Status codes have unlimited plays.

Earlier this week we all heard that Japan’s eShop made available a demo to Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS.  Those of us in the west either fired up our imported devices, or drooled over “Let’s Play” videos and twitch streams while we waited to hear if, not when, we would get our demo.

This afternoon, Nintendo of America announced via press release that a demo for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS is available here, but not for everyone.

To qualify to receive a code to download a demo, you had to have been a Platinum Club Nintendo Member in the 12-month period ending June 30, 2014.  However, those who qualify do not only get one code.  Platinum Club Nintendo Members will receive four codes; one for themselves and three to share with friends.

So if you are a Platinum Club Nintendo Member, check your e-mail.  The codes should already be there waiting for you.  If you didn’t get so lucky, start asking your Platinum friends for one of their spare codes.

While I was one of the first to express my opinion about not getting any “unique” rewards, I will now be one of the first person to state that this helps.  Since only Platinum members have received codes for the demos, we now can say that we have something that isn’t available to the general public.  Even though it is still a digital demo of a game I’m not particularly interested in, I know many people who are and they will be happy to get their hands on this demo.

Download codes are only good until September 19th, 2014.  So you have one week to find a code and download the demo.

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS launches on Friday, October 3rd, 2014.

What are your thoughts on this?  Did you get your codes, or were you a few coins short of Platinum?  Let us know in the comments below.

I got my codes a little after lunch. I was playing pokemon Y and I dropped that game like a bad habit so I could get the download started on Smash. I’ve already handed out my demo codes to some very happy fans. What I’ve played of the game so far is fairly awesome. The controls take a little getting used to, but then you realize you’re playing a 3D version of smash in your hands and the wonder kicks in pretty hard. I have my E-shop credit all lined up and I’ll be online to download at midnight of the 3rd.
