Sony has announced today that the upcoming firmware patch will contain a long awaited feature: external HDD support. Detailed in the Playstation Blog, Sony states that an external HDD can be used to add extra storage to your PS4 with any USB 3.0 supported hard drives with up to 8TB. This will arrive as courtesy of the 4.50 firmware patch when it arrives.

The patch will also include refinements to the “Quick Menu” feature to make it easier to stay within the game while connecting with friends, as well as enhancements to the notifications tabs. Instead of having multiple sections for downloads, uploads, etc, Sony is condensing everything into one list where you can view all of this information.

Lastly, for PSVR owners, if you like 3D Blu ray, the PSVR will allow you to watch stereoscopic 3D on the headset itself with this update. Overall a very nice firmware update coming added one very needed feature, and a few helpful ones.
