Pokken DX, Ultra Sun and Moon, and Gold/Silver Revealed in Pokemon Direct

In today’s Pokemon Direct we didn’t quite get the Pokemon Stars reveal that everyone had been expecting for Switch, but we did get three announcements starting with a live action trailer similar to the others that Pokemon games have been getting lately. First off was Pokken DX, a port of the Wii U game with the added characters that were only in the arcade version and likely some other additions that won’t be clear until next week’s E3 Direct and Treehouse streams. This was the only Switch announcement though, much to the dismay of Pokemon fans who already have Switches, as the reveals of Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are confirmed to only be on 3DS, in typical Pokemon fashion.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise, seeing as Pokemon Black and White 2 released on the original DS after the release of the 3DS because their predecessors on the same engine were on the DS. It would be more of a surprise if they did announce a mainline Pokemon game on Switch already. Not much information was given for these yet, but it is seeming like they will be sequels in the vein of Black and White 2. The two main legendaries were shown with what appears to be a coating produced by Necrozma, similar to how Kyurem worked in BW2.

Finally, the announcement that everyone should have seen coming: Pokemon Gold and Silver are coming to the 3DS virtual console later this year. They’ll be releasing the same day as Pokken DX: September 22. They’ll have the same bonus features that Red and Blue did when they released last year, including wireless trading and Pokemon Bank integration. Expect a few hours of GameXplain videos on this to release shortly.
