This morning at a specially themed Nintendo Direct for Pokemon, Nintendo’s president Satoru Iwata, led us through a small retrospective on the Pokemon series. The video started with us looking back at the first Pokemon games released in Japan, Red and Green. Which were first released in 1996. Emphasis was put on the fact that it took 2 years for these titles to be translated and released in the United States. It seemed that Iwata wanted to drive the point home that Pokemon games have always been released at different times in different places around the world because of localization.
This was used as a build up on the announcement of Pokemon X and Pokemon Y. As generation 6 will be the first game to be released around the world simultaneously with a tentative date of October 2013. That’s exciting in it’s own right, but what you should be excited for is that it’s the first true Nintendo 3DS release and it will use 3D models for everything.
Pokemon X and Y features a new fully 3D animated battle sequence. That appears to have dynamic camera views that breaks the tradition of looking on from behind your Pokemon’s back. Of the five Pokemon revealed two appeared to be Legendary Pokemon, while the other three were the starters for the generation. Those three were given names: Fennekin (Fox: Fire Type), Chespin (Rodent: Grass Type) and Froakie (Toad: Water Type).
While the game puts an emphasis on connecting globally, it seems that this world of Pokemon will also encompass many aspects of the previous generations. Since various other Pokemon from the various generations made brief appearances in battle scenes.
Five major things to note in the video below:
@7:37/7:40 The region might be based around Europe, specifically France.
@7:39 The female version of the Protagonist appears to be blond, breaking the trend of dark haired characters.
@7:41 The main character can now Roller Skate. It seems to be an enhancement of the Running Shoes.
@8:11 There might be places where players can interact in real time.
@8:15 You might be able to customize how your main character looks.
