Once again forgoing the usual pre-E3 conferences this year, Nintendo is riding the Smash buzz train for all it’s worth right now in anticipation of the upcoming WiiU installment of its marquee mascot brawler franchise.
This morning, the company revealed, via Youtube, new details on the Super Smash Bros. Invitational, the tournament for the new game to be held at the Nokia Theatre on June 10th at 4 pm. Oft-noted gadfly Geoff Keighley will host the proceedings.
The tournament will square off 16 contenders, each of whom will fight with a single character from a special draft. For the first three rounds, all items will be on, giving way to the grand finale, where all items are off, and the tournament concludes with a one-on-one showdown. There will also be a special fan-voted bracket.
The video leaves off with one last reveal: a Gamecube controller adapter for the WiiU, easily a nod to Smash players’ preference towards the controller.
