Nintendo Direct 9.1.2016 Details

This morning’s Nintendo Direct was promised to  have a bunch of information on upcoming Nintendo 3DS games, and nothing with the letters N and X in it.  So, here’s a run down of how the Nintendo Direct went down:

  • Video starts out with Reggie talking with his stage manager who is preparing the recording session for Nintendo Direct when it is revealed that Bill is missing in addition to Reggie’s New 3DS with “the 2017 games on it”.
  • The game announcement content starts out with another look of Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon.
    • New Alolan form of Rattata shown:  Dark-Normal type.
    • Talks about Z-Moves which can vary depending on the crystal that is held by the Pokémon .
    • Early Purchase Bonus: Munchlax that can evolve into a Snorlax. Comes with a crystal to give Snorlax the Z-Move Pulverizing Pancake.
    • Launches November 18, 2016.
  • Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS:
    • Comes with 100 pre-built courses designed by Nintendo.
      • Medal Objectives: Collecting every coin or defeating every enemy before reaching the goal.
    • Can play courses created on the Wii U version of Super Mario Maker, but cannot search by ID.  Playable in 100-Mario Challenge and Recommended Courses.
    • Not all Wii U-created courses will be compatible with 3DS version.
    • Mystery Mushroom and amiibo costumes are exclusive to the Wii U version.
    • 3DS version is tuned to work with local friends and friend list members instead of a global community like the Wii U was going for.
    • Courses created won’t be uploaded to the Internet, but available to others through Local Play and StreetPass.
    • Incomplete courses can be shared through Local Play for collaboration in level creation.
    • Launches December 2, 2016.
  • Mario Party Star Rush:
    • Game modes:
      • Toad Scramble:
        • Playable single player or multi-player.
        • Everyone rolls and moves simultaneously.
        • Can find other characters on the map to play with you and points earned goes to you.
      • Coin-athalon:
        • Collect as many coins as possible in mini-games.
        • Pure skill.  No dice rolls.
      • Mario Shuffle:
        • 7 modes within this game type controlling three pieces on a board to try to get to your opponent’s side.
    • Compatible with Super Mario series amiibo figures, including the 7 new amiibo previously announced to be released later this year.
    • Download Play and Local Wireless Play compatible.
    • Launches November 4, 2016.
  • Animal Crossing: New Leaf free update:
    • Compatible with Animal Crossing Series amiibo figures and cards.
    • New wave of amiibo cards releases December 2, 2016 including 50 new cards and new villagers in mobile homes that can visit.
    • Also available as a new retail release called Animal Crossing: New Leaf: Welcome amiibo which will launch this Holiday that has the update already applied and includes one new amiibo card.
    • Animal Crossing mini-direct to be coming later this year to give more information.
  • Back to the skit, earlier in the day Bill is seen finding Reggie’s New Galaxy Style New Nintendo 3DS XL and pockets it.  Next he sees a plate of donuts that are clearly labeled “Reggie’s Donuts” and starts eating one.  Hearing someone coming, he hides in a box, which is then shut, locked, and labeled “Bound for Easter Island, Chile”.  So that’s where Bill went!
  • StreetPass Mii Plaza free update:
    • Added a Quick Plaza that streamlines the process
    • Premium players can have up to 100 Miis waiting for them at the gate instead of the old limit of 10.
    • Five new “Fast Pace” StreetPass games:
      • Slot Car Rivals*
      • Market Crashers*
      • Feed Mii
      • Ninja Launcher
      • Mii Trek
      • *One of the two games can be downloaded for free.
      • Each game is $2.99 each, or $8.99 for all four other games.
    • Update available immediately after the Direct completed.
  • Tank Troopers:
    • Can select from many different “Troopers” to be in your tank to give various advantanges.
    • Can be played single-player, 6-player local multi-player, and 6-player via Download Play.
    • Additional game modes available.
    • Launches later this year.
  • Picross 3D Round 2:
    • Puzzles are two-colored to reveal more details.
    • More than 300 puzzles included.
    • Compatible amiibo can be used to unlock additional Character-based puzzles.
    • Demo available immediately after the Direct completed.
    • Launches today!! September 1, 2016.
  • Nindies Summer Jam
    • One game a week for Nintendo 3DS or Wii U will be available for a discounted price for a limited time:
      • 9/1: Axiom Verge for Wii U
      • 9/8: Jotun: Valhalla Edition for Wii U
      • 9/15: Noitu Love: Devolution for Wii U
      • 9/22: Severed for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS

  • Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition:
    • Launches November 11, 2016.
  • Zelda’s 30th anniversary:
    • New amiibo figures:

        • 8-bit Link
        • Link from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time playing the Ocarina
      • Two-pack of amiibo including:
        • Toon Link from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Water directing with The Wind Waker
        • Zelda from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Water
      • Launches December 2, 2016.
      • Will be compatible with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
    • Dark Horse Comics will release three books:
      • The Legend of Zelda: Art & Artifacts
        • Featuring over 2000 illustrations from the series.
        • Pre-order available now at Amazon.
        • Amazon shows this will be released on February 21, 2017.  Though I don’t know if this is the real date or just a placeholder.
      • Other books to be announced later.
    • The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword will be released today for Wii U.
  • Back to the skit, Reggie asks his stage manager if Bill or his New Nintendo 3DS XL has been found yet.  He also notices that his doughnuts are missing.
  • Third Hyrule Warrior Legends DLC pack:
    • New Characters:
      • Toon Link with Sand Wand from The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks.
      • Toon Zelda from The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks.
    • New Adventure Mode map.
    • Launches today.
    • Season Pass available for all four DLC packs for a discounted price.
  • Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice:
    • New trial type: Seance trials.
    • Play as Phoenix Wright and Apollo Justice.
    • Launches September 8, 2016.
  • Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King:
    • Launches in 2017.
  • Dragon Quest VII: Fragment of the Forgotten Past:
    • Remade from the ground up.
    • StreetPass feature to access special dungeons and items.
    • Available for Pre-Purchase on eShop
      • Dragon Quest VII Menu Theme for free if Pre-Purcahsed.
    • Launches September 16, 2016.
  • YO-KAI WATCH 2: Bony Spirits and YO-KAI WATCH 2: Fleshy Souls:
    • Shows the origin of the YO-KAI WATCH.
    • New options available in battle, including Poking them.
    • Each version has YO-KAI available that is not available in the other version.
    • Medals can be traded between versions.
    • First print releases will contain a physical medal that has functionality in-game.
    • Digital versions lets you befriend RoboNyan F and Sailornyan.
    • Demo will be available mid-September.
    • Launches September 30, 2016.
  • Disney Magical World 2:
    • Launches October 14, 2016.
    • Pre-Purchasing the game gets you free in-game outfits from Frozen.
  • Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice:
    • Launches September 27, 2016.
    • First print releases will contain a three-episode DVD of the Sonic Boom.
  • Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse:
    • Continues  the original game, but can be played stand-alone.
    • Pre-Purchase available.
    • First print release will contain a medal set.
    • Launches September 20, 2016.
  • Back to the skit with Reggie and his stage manager still unable to find Bill and his New Nintendo 3DS XL.  Bill arrives in a full beard and long hair and claims he’s been away for years with visions of games to be released in 2017.  Reggie tells him he’s only been gone for a few hours.
  • Bill talks about games to be released in 2017:
    • Poochy & Yoshi’s Woolly World:
      • Contains every stage in the Wii U version, plus additional features.
      • Exclusive new stages focused on Poochy.
      • Poochy Pups can help you find secrets.
      • Stop-Motion animated shorts are being created to go along with the game’s release.
      • 30 animated shorts are included with the 3DS version.
      • Yarn Poochy amiibo will be available to purchase along side the game.
      • Launches February 3, 2017.
    • Ever Oasis:
      • Launches in 2017.
    • Mario Sports Super Stars:
      • Five sports included:
        • Soccer
        • Baseball
        • Tennis
        • Golf
        • Horse Racing
      • Local Tournaments can be set up for each sport.
      • Local and online multiplayer for each sport.
      • Launches Spring 2017.
    • Pikmin for Nintendo 3DS (Name not Final)
      • Side-scrolling 2D Platformer featuring Olimar and Pikmin using mechanics common with the franchise.
      • Launches in 2017.
  • Back to the skit, when Bill is done talking, Reggie says it is great to have him back and asks where the New Nintendo 3DS XL ended up.  Bill starts meditating and the New Nintendo 3DS XL starts to levitate in between them to Reggie’s surprise.
