During Sony’s conference at Tokyo Game Show, Spike Chunsoft showed off a short but sweet trailer for the next game in its popular Danganronpa franchise; New Danganronpa V3 (possibly taking after Nintendo’s naming conventions). You can see it below, but below that we have it with English subtitles, which has been uploaded by OmegaValwin (with translation by Reddit user Razputin7).

Despite the trailer only being a minute, a good amount was revealed. January of 2017 is its final release date for Japan, and its localisation has yet to be announced. The full cast of characters were also shown, albeit without names or their talents. But there was a certain spotlight on the new playable protagonist, being Kaede Akamatsu. She will be the first female lead in the main series (Komaru Naegi was the star of the spin-off Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls), and Sayaka Kanda will be providing her voice. There were brief glimpses of gameplay of the player walking around Gifted Inmates Academy (the ‘main stage’ for this killing game if you would), as well the signature class trials. And it has to be said, the trial grounds are looking just superb. Just before the teaser ends five new bear-type characters (not unlike Monokuma or Kurokuma), but whether they’re friend or foe has yet to be seen.

As the ‘New’ in the game’s title implies, New Danganronpa V3 is indeed going to be something different. This will be in a completely new setting with completely new characters, in addition to this marking its entry onto home consoles (being released on the PS4). All that we can hope for is that this will get localised not too long after its launch in Japan.
