As we all know Modern Warfare 2 has broke tons of records this year, it was billed as the biggest ever entertainment launch in history selling 4.7 million units during it’s first 24 hours alone, it’s even beat popular film franchises like Harry Potter and Batman with it’s draw dropping launch frenzy.
However Modern Warfare 2 now has another impressive accolade to add to it’s list ‘ Most Pirated Game of 2009′ according to data collected by TorrentFreak.com the PC version has racked up a pretty impressive 4,100,000 downloads since it’s November 2009 release beating the likes of The Sims 3 which was released in June 2009 and only had 3,200,000 downloads.
Call of Duty also tops the Xbox 360 Game Downloads coming in with 970,000 downloads since November 2009 beating it’s nearest rival Street Fighter IV by over a 100,000 downloads.
On a related note the most pirated title on the Wii in 2009 was unsurprisingly ’New Super Mario Bros.’ coming in with Modern Warfare 2 worthy downloads of 1,150,000 since it’s November 2009 release beating it’s nearest rival Punch-Out!! by nearly 200,000 downloads.
Taking all these stats in to consideration I put this question to you, Why do people pirate games?, are they too expensive, are they simply not good enough to spend the money on or do people just want to stick it to the man!. This sadly is a question we will never get the answer too.
