Missingno in Pokemon Sun/Moon? Doubtful, but Funny to Think About

Pokemon fans will be excited (or scared) to hear that Missingno, the infamous item-duplicating Pokemon/glitch, can still be encountered in the 3DS Virtual Console versions of Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue.

Don’t believe us? Check out this recent YouTube upload from user, Epi Demie:

With the recent announcement of Pokemon Sun/Pokemon Moon and their ability to import Pokemon caught from Pokemon Red/Pokemon Blue via the Pokemon Bank, it’ll be interesting to see how Nintendo handles this with Missingno. I’m certain the development team will find ways to prevent this from happening, though.

On the other hand, imagine the catastrophic magnitude Missingno could unleash upon the Pokemon world, especially if it were allowed to be traded between other trainers. It has the potential to corrupt save files. It has the power to duplicate items. Think about it: Missingno could be THE Pokemon used to get revenge on other trainers (or if you’re just feeling angry). Could you imagine receiving Missingno via Wonder Trade? The expression on a trainer’s face would be priceless, as they watch their 100+ hour game progress fall into obscurity when their newly received Missingno starts wreaking havoc on their save file.

But that would never happen…right? I guess we won’t find out until Holiday 2016, when Pokemon Sun/Pokemon Moon are released. Until then, let the Missingno conspiracy theories start running rampant across the internet!

If Nintendo acknowledged this glitch and warns users about it, then why do they keep it in the VC versions? It’s not like they’re unable to fix it. I think they did it intentionally, because fans would get dissapointed if they find out MissingNo, isn’t there. But that would indeed mean Nintendo would make a system that blocks MissingNo. or make it a real Pokemon in Pokemon Sun and Moon.

You hit the nail directly on the head, Thomas. If they had gotten rid of Missingno in the VC versions, fans would’ve taken that as a ‘disservice’ to the original Game Boy releases.

With that said, I do believe the PKMN development team will do everything in their power to prevent Missingno from being transferred to Pokemon Sun/Moon via the PKMN Bank. The prevention will probably be in the form of a simple name check (AKA: Missingno won’t be a registered Pokemon in the Pokedex).

Just a thought… What if they left it in on purpose, not just for nostalgia?

I’m curious if they may have a plan to make Missingno a legitimate glitch Pokemon for Sun/Moon, but can only be obtained by trading up from RBY on the 3DS. That said, I suspect any Missingno. Sent to Sun/Moon would be replaced with a non-glitchy version at some low level with balanced stats and whatnot.

Now THAT would be pretty hype. They would obviously have to remove the actual-glitch functionality from Missingno though, beforehand. I could see Nintendo finally making him a part of the Pokedex; give it Pokedex Entry#000!

Most likely if you could transfer it over, gamefreak would probably turn it into an official pokemon like, the glitch pokemon, making it where it wouldn’t corrupt your sun or moon save file.

MissingNo. doesn’t corrupt your save. It can corrupt hall of fame data, the 6th item slot, and sometimes flips graphics around (fixed by viewing the Pokedex).

Also, the video thumbnail shows ‘M, which is not MissingNo. I didn’t watch the video, maybe it’s in there, but just saying ‘M and MissingNo. are actually different.
