Nintendo dropped quite the blue shell (pardon the lame pun) this week in their latest Nintendo Direct with a few new details regarding their forthcoming Mario Kart 8. The game will be featured in a Wii U Deluxe bundle that includes a red Mario Kart themed steering wheel and red Mario themed Wii Remote Plus, priced at $329.99 MSRP.  On top of this, anyone who purchases the game (or bundle) and registers the game on Club Nintendo anytime between the May 30 release date and July 31 gets a free download code for any of the following four WiiU games: New Super Mario U, Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD, Pikmin 3 and Wii Party U.

The game itself sees the addition of antigravity boosters that allow racers to tread walls and even ceilings, opening up new possibilities for alternate paths. New characters include the eight Koopalings, Baby Rosalina, Pink Gold Peach, a metallic counterpart to her namesake a la Metal Mario, and the option to play as a Mii character. A few new items are thrown in for good measure, including the Boomerang Plant and the Super Horn, the latter of which emits a sonic shockwave that knocks out all surrounding racers and projectiles. A bevy of online tournament and race playback options are also included.

Mario Kart 8 releases May 30 for $59.99 ($329.99 limited bundle).
