By its release, Lady Layton: The Conspiracy of King Millionaire will mark the first time fans of the series will be able to play a true Professor Layton title in Japan. Level 5’s new puzzle-solving adventure will star the good professor’s daughter Cattley Eyl Layton, and will keep on the same gameplay the DS and 3DS classics are well known for.

The trailer shows a lot of well-animated cutscenes, including a look at some of the characters, most notable of which being the heroine’s partner: a talking dog. Regardless, it seems that she will not pursuit her father’s occupation, seen at the end when she puts on the final touches of the Layton Detective Agency. This trailer was part of the Level 5 Vision event that was streamed earlier on today, which showcased other titles like Fantasy Life 2 and Inazuma Eleven Ares (the latter being my other highlight).

Lady Layton: The Conspiracy of King Millionaire will be released in Japan Spring of next year for the Nintendo 3DS, iOS and Android. There is yet to be word on it coming outside of Japan, but given recent news that the developer trademarked the name Lady Layton (among other names) in Europe makes it next to inevitable. In the mean time, please share your thoughts on what you make of the franchise’s return, as well as the new protagonist and your hopes for the title, in the comments below!
