VG247 is claiming that the new Playstation 3 motion controller will be called ‘Arc’. They are saying that that their source is ‘concrete’, but of course wants to be kept anonymous. The Playstation motion sensor as we all know was previously called ‘Gem’ at one point in development so it seems possible that Sony will have gone with a terrible name like Arc.
Sony is doing its usual thing of saying “no comment” at this moment in time, but I’m sure they will announce a name soon if they are to meet there target release of early 2010. Though it seems likely that they are going to delay the product considering what we have heard at this current stage, which is close to release, is very little. Do you like the name Arc and think that the motion controller will be on time? Please tell us in the comments.
Update: While typing this post I have just received a press release saying that the Playstation motion controller (still unnamed) is going to be released fall 2010 worldwide. Am I surprised? Well no as indicted by my above post. But are you surprised? Let us know in the comments!
“We have decided to release the Motion Controller in fall 2010 when we will be able to offer an exciting and varied line-up of software titles that will deliver the new entertainment experience to PS3 users, †said Kazuo Hirai, President and Group CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. “We will continue to work to have a comprehensive portfolio of attractive and innovative games for the Motion Controller, not only from SCE Worldwide Studios but also from the third party developers and publishers, whom we have been working closely with. We look forward to soon unveiling the exciting software line-up that further expand and define the PS3 platform as the ultimate entertainment system for the home.â€
