If there’s one important rule I’ve learned about life, it is this: society (as gamers and decent human beings) should always try to promote positivity and encourage others to pursue their dreams.

Let’s face it – everyone goes through periods of happiness and anguish in their everyday lives. It is just a fact of life we must all accept. While there are individuals who have succeeded in identifying their own personal ways to cope with life’s negativity, others aren’t as fortunate and can fall deeper into depression. As a community which should abide by moral integrity, we should all do our part to help these individuals push through their struggles. Even if your contribution is as simple as sending an encouraging tweet or text, that minor gesture (in your eyes) may mean the world to someone else. In the long run, that positivity will turn into inspiration and passion, which can act as a catalyst/kickstarter for people to pursue their dreams.

Fortunately, there are several individuals within the gaming industry that are already doing this, including Super Smash Bros. Melee champion, Juan Debiedma (AKA: Hungrybox). In a recent YouTube video, Hungrybox delivers a rather inspiring and authentic message about ‘not giving up’ in life.

The video starts with Hungrybox talking about how negativity can come in a variety of different forms (such as: family, addictions, the act of loss/losing, relationships, etc.), and how humans individually have their own ways of coping with this. Hungrybox further adds that these forms of negativity can have various levels of magnitude and impact on us.

“What might seem like something miniscule to you…is the most difficult, insurmountable wall and horrid, looming monster for other people”.

-Hungrybox, on the varying levels of magnitude that negative life events can have on people

Around the video’s 3:12 mark, Hungrybox hammers home on the idea about how it is always better to be taking some action or step forward to surpass these negative events, than it is to do nothing (AKA: giving up).

“We can always guarantee instant improvement on things. But if you make a certain choice, you can guarantee that things will never get better…and that’s the choice of giving up.”

-Hungrybox, on continuously fighting and moving forward through life’s struggles

Hungrybox makes some extremely valid points, and his video acts as that gesture that generates extreme positivity and encouragement to those who may be in a negative state of mind in their lives currently. As gamers, Super Smash Bros. fans, and decent human beings, we should all rise to the occasion (like Hungrybox) and do our part in helping to promote positive attitudes and ideals of perseverance to our friends, family, loved ones, enemies, and everyone else in between. Thank you for the powerful message, Hungrybox.
