Last year, Unity announced the upcoming Virtual and Augmented Reality Summit that will take place on the 10th to the 11th of this month. Since then, large figures in VR have been confirmed to be speakers at the event, and can be expected to make some big announcements for their hardware. Now with Gabe Newell being added to the lineup, we’ve got Valve’s side handled, alongside Palmer Luckey for Oculus, Clay Bavor for Google, and Dr. Richard Marks for Playstation.
There’s no certainty to Gabe saying anything about a new Valve game for their SteamVR platform, but we can at least assume a price point will be announced for the Vive, and more details may be given for launch titles. As it stands, the launch library for the Vive mainly consists of smaller games for a quick “jump in and play” type experience, while the Rift has titles like Lucky’s Tale and EVE Valkyrie coming on launch. So if we do see some more games announced for the Vive, it can only mean good things.
Unity’s VR Summit is just another example of their commitment to Virtual Reality is a whole, and I’d say it’s fair to expect a few good announcements and speeches at the event, which will take place at the Loews Hollywood Hotel in California. You can buy tickets to this event here.
