With the Final Fantasy XIII demo on Japanese Blu-ray editions of Advent Children clocking in at just under five gigabytes only for an hour of gameplay, some are wondering how Square Enix is going to handle Final Fantsy XIII on the Xbox 360. Standard dual layered DVDs hold an average of 8.5 gigabytes which means a regular 360 disc would be able to comfortably hold the demo and not much else. We could argue that the 360 version will be smaller than the PS3 version due to compressed audio, but that fails to address the issue of the CGI videos which took up 4 GBs on the demo alone.
Are we looking at a possible 13 disc game or has Square Enix found a way to shave off gigabytes from the PlayStation 3 version here and there to make it fit on a reasonable aount of DVDs for the Xbox 360? Either way, Square Enix have put themselves in a position where fanboys will never let them rest in peace with their multi disk Final Fanasy XIII.
Heres how we imagine the decision to put Final Fantasy XIII on the Xbox 360 occurred:
Microsoft Rep: Sony doesn’t see to like us handing out checks, but here’s one for you.
Square Enix Rep: Wow! Thanks! Now what did you want in return for this again?
Microsoft Rep: Oh, nothing. Just Final Fantasy XIII on the Xbox 360. … You can do that, right?
Square Enix Rep: Of course we can!
Microsoft Rep: That’s great! See you next week!
Square Enix Itern: How are we going to get FFXIII on the Xbox 360?! It’s impossible!
Square Enix Rep: Who said it has to be playable? We’ll just record ourselves playing FFXIII on a PlayStation 3 and slap it on a disc!
Square Enix Intern: That’s brilliant!
Square Enix Rep: Of course it is! You aren’t being paid to think otherwise!

Anyway, apparently, as was massively discussed over, Metal Gear Solid 4 can work on the 360 and not be a massive number of discs. This is due to massive video and audio compression skills that the 360 has if the developers take the time to use it. I'm guessing with a game this size they are going to have to. But don't forget, perhaps in that demo it already has all of the games textures in and just not the code and sound for the rest of the game? In that case it would clearly fit. Tbh i doubt that though and think it will just need to be compressed into a 4 discer like Lost Odyssey and tbh it's something us fans are used to with FF7 (3 discs) and FF8 and FF9 which where 4 discs.

I don't think they'll be able to fill up 13 discs worth if they convert and compress the game well enough. I agree with Mraellis' proposal that the demo may have more in it than is actually playable.
That's pretty astounding. I hope it's not that large, or it's bound to effect price point.
Perhaps most of that 5 gigabytes is the game engine, and content takes up significantly less space?
I'd have to agree. There must be a lot of base code in that 5 gigabytes. Also, Square Enix probably has some sort of compression voodoo for getting it down into DVDs.
I also forgot that Final Fanasy Fans are used to a crazy amount of discs, so you are right Alan. This is nothing new for Final Fantasy fan.
got to say that ff13 box at the top of the topic look awsome for a collector edition of the game but like alan said it will most likely to be 4 or 5 dvd disk or a duel layer dvd disk
