Theatrhythm Final Fantasy is an upcoming rhythm game that is being developed for the 3DS by Indies zero and published by Square Enix. It takes music from all the main games in the Final Fantasy series, and the player has to tap or swipe the stylus in the fashion shown on screen, though the game has some RPG elements to it as well. You have the option of creating a party of four out of seemingly every major character in all the games to fight against bosses in certain stages, and your characters level up as you progress through stages.

While it’s strange to see a rhythm game coming from Square Enix, it’s a nice way to breathe new life into all the wonderful soundtracks from each of the games over the years. Theatrhythm Final Fantasy will be available in store on July 6th, 2012.

Released alongside the new trailer is a batch of screenshots which you can check out after the break.
