Dragon Quest VII Coming To 3DS?

The “Rumor du jour” is that Dragon Quest VII may be re-released on the Nintendo 3DS, at least in Japan, sometime next year.

An image scan from JUMP shows information about what will be in the game, including StreetPass functionality for trading of lithographs found in the game.

Dragon Quest VII was originally released on the Playstation in Japan in August of 2000, with a North American release under the name Dragon Warrior VII was released in October of 2001.

If this remake happens, I would expect a North American release sometime in 2014 as localizations of this franchise are usually not done in parallel with initial development, as was done with Final Fantasy XIII.

Dragon Quest VII is the only numbered game in the series that I have not yet played.  I will be looking forward to playing this after I am done with Dragon Quest X, which hopefully should be coming out in North America for Wii U sometime in 2013.

What are your thoughts on this rumor?  Have you played the original Playstation release, or is this new to you as it is me?  Let us know in the comments below.
