In a letter written on the Daybreak Games Blog page this morning, President Russ Shanks announced that the expected sequel to EverQuest and EverQuest II titled EverQuest Next has discontinued development.

Shanks writes:

As we put together the pieces, we found that it wasn’t fun.

In final review, we had to face the fact that EverQuest Next would not meet the expectations we – and all of you – have for the worlds of Norrath.

While it is sad to see a project that has been in development for as long as it has simply die, it is good to know that there are developers and publishers that have more than their bottom line in mind.  Daybreak Games wants their games to have entertainment value.  If only other publishers would learn that lesson.

Daybreak Games has other games other than EverQuest and EverQuest II, such as survival game H1Z1 on PC, Multi-player first-person shooter PlanetSide 2 on PC and PlayStation 4, and DC Universe Online on PC, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4.
