Capcom has been no stranger to digital HD rereleases from their classic fighting catalog these past few years, and the recent release of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure HD was their most obscure yet. So it came as little surprise that Darkstalkers, a franchise producer Yoshinori Ono has made no secret about wanting to revive, would get that same treatment. To that effect, Capcom announced Darkstalkers Resurrection, a double pack coming early next year to the Playstation Network and XBox Live Arcade featuring Night Warriors: Darkstalkers’ Revenge and Darkstalkers 3, today at New York Comic-con.
For the unfamiliar, Darkstalkers was Capcom’s very first non-Street Fighter based fighting game, which traded in the traditional world martial arts championship setting for a more offbeat Gothic anime motif with a cast drawn from many infamous monster archetypes – and an old fairy tale fave gone bad for good measure. In spite of the series relative obscurity, it became a cult fave, and a couple of the characters, most notably Morrigan and Felicia, would feature in several Capcom all-star fighters.
Iron Galaxy, they of Marvel vs. Capcom Origins and Street FIghter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition, are handling development on the package, which will feature GGPO online, HD filtering and multiple viewing options, Youtube replay uploading, achievements, spectator mode, challenge and tutorial modes, and unlockable artwork, videos, and more.
Darkstalkers Resurrection will release in early 2013 for $14.99 on the Playstation Network and 1200 Microsoft Points on XBox Live Arcade.
