Judge issues World of Warcraft inspired ruling

Chief judge of the Delaware Court of Chancery William B. Chandler IIIWe'll leave he description of the case up to GamePolitics, they're into that sorta thing. "An attempt to block Activision's merger with Vivendi has ended with a ruling issued by William B. Chandler III (left), chief judge of the Delaware Court of Chancery.

As reported by the Wall Street Journal Law Blog, the judge has apparently taken notice of whatWorld of Warcraft - one of the leading assets in the merger - is all about."

The judges ruling cited World of Warcraft and allowed the Activision-Vivendi merger to continue.

The judges decision:

In some ways, perhaps, the world of Mergers and Acquisitions is a massively multiplayer role playing game as well. Like in World of Warcraft... the participants in the M&A field take on certain roles, interact in their own community, hone specialized skills, and even develop a unique, somewhat curious vernacular.

One particular quest in the world of M&A is disclosure litigation. In the instance of disclosure litigation presently pending before this Court, the world of M&A meets the World of Warcraft.

In the role-playing game that is this disclosure litigation, both sides have played their respective roles well. Like any game, this one has rules, and the most essential rule of disclosure is materiality. Because the plaintiff could not establish the materiality of its final three disclosure claims, the motion for a preliminary injunction is denied. . . .GAME OVER.

Blizzard Entertainment's Logo

In an interview with Blizzard's Executive VP, Rob Pardo, Online Welten got this nice tidbit of news:

"'There is still one unknown project,' Blizzard executive VP Rob Pardo revealed to OnlineWelten during the Blizzard Worldwide Invitational. "We have another development team."

Pardo affirmed that Blizzard's recent job listings for an unannounced next-gen MMO were not related to Diablo III. The company had previously stated that the project was not a World of Warcraft expansion either."

Blizzard's blue morphological mystery = Diablo III

Diablo 3 Splash

The above title was a sad, sad attempt to be a tongue twister. Now, what should be more interesting is the picture above. If you've visited one of Blizzard's sites lately you have probably been greeted with the image above, or a variation of it, before continuing to their main site. What is interesting about this is that the image, which appeared several days ago, has been evolving or morphing, if you will, every day. The intertubes have been ablaze with theories of what this morphing picture might lead to. Some say it might be an announcement for a Wrath of The Lich King beta or a Doom 3 announcement. At the rate the picture has been changing it looks like we won't have to wait until E3 for a big announcement from Blizzard, or should I say Actiblizz, or Blizzavision.

You can see the first forms of the picture to it's current state after the jump. And don't forget more speculation!

World of Warcraft Prepaid Card

According to Blizzard's Rob Pardo, Senior VP of Game Design, World of Warcraft was originally going to be a free-to-play MMO earning it's revenue from advertisements. Revealing this at the Paris Game Developers Conference, Pardo also said that "market conditions" forced them to go the you-have-to-play-$30-to-play-for-2-months-and-we-know-you-will-pay-because-you-love-this-game route.
