Captain Rainbow; New Nintendo franchise?

Captain Rainbow; could it be Nintendo's newest IP

Click to play in new window.

This new video appears to reveal a new Japan only (as of now) IP from Nintendo called Captain Rainbow. What exactly is Captain Rainbow? Besides escaping sanity, Captain Rainbow escapes words. The first few seconds of the video are hard to watch, but once you get past them it's not hard to see that this new IP could be pretty fun and not to mention has a pretty slick cel-shaded comic look to it. Also adding to the game's appeal is that Birdo and other less famous Nintendo characters will be making cameos throughout it. Word on the intertubes has it that the developers of Chibi Robo, Skip, are developing the title. Although this is probably the case, we wouldn't be shocked to find out if it was Vanpool, the developer of Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland, who is behind the title.

Will Captain Rainbow ever see a North American or European release? Chances are slim, but if  Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland made it to Europe, Captain Rainbow surely has a better chance of going cross territory.

Although we here at VGTribune are intrigued by Captain Rainbow's first outing, we're are eagerly anticipating his as of yet unannounced sequel, Super Happy Fun Time Game Show Hour hosted by Captain Rainbow and Friends. What? You don't think it could happen? With a name like Captain Rainbow, anything can happen.

New Wii controller patented

The guys over at Spong uncovered a new Nintendo patent, filed on June 26th, that details a new Wii controller. If you ask us, it looks like a classic controller redesign which would house the Wii remote in that rectangular groove of the controller. You can try and decipher the patent gibberish here. Have any ideas of what this might be?
