Long time Sony fans probably noticed that the recently announced new, slimmer PS3 lacks backwards compatibility, and it’s clear that PS2 support is not coming back. Sony has instead opted to re-release old titles, or at least two of them – God of War I and II are coming to the PS3 this holiday season in the form of “God of War Collection.”
Sony says the collection will feature remastered anti-aliased graphics, a higher frame rate, and HD support. From the official Sony Playstation Blog:
Thanks to your feedback, we are excited to announce the God of War Collection for this Holiday Season. Now fans and newcomers to the series can experience the epic journey of God of War and God of War II in 720p HD form. Both titles have been remastered with anti-aliased graphics, running at 60 frames per second for a smooth gameplay experience, only on the PS3 system.
Our only gripe? God of War “Collection” comes incomplete, as God of War III is on the way, hitting stores next March. Calling two games a “collection,” does not quite fit the bill – although the title does have a better ring to it than “God of War I + II.” Although it would be more pleasing and certainly feel more complete to have “God of War Trilogy” sitting on our shelves, Sony is hoping to use the “Collection” re-release to promote the release of the upcoming third game – exciting old fans whilst drawing new fans to the series.
God of War Collection will be available this holiday season.
