ACTION AND FANTASY COLLIDE IN BIOWARE’S DRAGON AGE 2

Rise to Power and Change the World Forever in the Sequel to 2009’s RPG of the Year

Guildford, UK (July 8, 2010) – Leading video game developer BioWareTM, a studio of Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS), confirmed today that Dragon AgeTM 2 is in development at BioWare’s Edmonton-based studio. Dragon Age 2 is the sequel to the triple-platinum-selling Dragon Age: Origins which was named “RPG of the Year” in 2009 by Game Informer, G4, IGN, and SpikeTV. With Dragon Age 2, the world’s preeminent RPG developer is revolutionizing the genre again, infusing the universe with more action, a new, more responsive combat system and a dynamic story that is already among the most multifaceted in gaming. Dragon Age 2 traces the rise to power of Hawke, a survivor of the Blight and a hero who will transform the face of the Dragon Age universe forever. The new game is scheduled for release in March of 2011 on the Xbox 360 videogame and entertainment system, PlayStation 3 computer and entertainment system, and PC.

Have you ever wanted to go back to the time when MMA was less about fighting clean and million-dollar corporate sponsorships?  Back to the time where it was still called “cagefighting” and was extremely underground?  Kung Fu Factory and 505 Games have teamed up to give you just that with the very recently announced “Supremacy MMA“.

Sitting in a private session with some of the game’s developers, they made one thing abundantly clear: this is not your run-of-the-mill mixed martial arts sim (like some other games that are already out there).  Kung Fu Factory has really done a lot to make this a fast-paced game – it definitely feels more like a straight-up fighting game than a slow-paced wrestling title.

Showing us an early build of the game (I believe they said the build was only 35% complete), we got to see a couple different fighters, and a couple different arenas.  The first place they showed us was an old abandoned warehouse.  Strippers are in one corner, cockfighting in another corner – you definitely get the feeling that this was as underground as it gets.  The cage is made out of something resembling old wooden planks and chickenwire.  There’s just an all-around dirty, grungy atmosphere in general that makes everything feel gritty and raw.  The second arena was something more akin to what you see today – a nice big arena.  The devs said that they wanted to cover every aspect of a fighter’s career, from the humble beginnings to the “big time”, hence the need for an arena level.

To reiterate – the fighting is super fast-paced.  All of your favorite fighting styles and moves are in the game, and Kung Fu Factory has really done a lot of work to make sure each style is visually unique.  They’re also trying to make sure that strategy does come into play when choosing fighting styles, and that certain styles will work well (or not so well) against other styles, just like they do in real life.  Landing a knockout blow cuts to a sweet animation showing exactly what happened (i.e. broken bones, ribs, concussions – you name it) before your fighter hits the ground.

I think this is definitely a game to look out for if you love MMA, but like the rough-and-tumble beginnings of the sport more than what it has become.  There’s no release date set for Supremacy MMA yet, but Kung Fu Factory and 505 Games are working hard to make sure that when it comes out, it’s a fighting experience for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 that you won’t soon forget.

Paper Mario is one of our favorite franchises here at VG Tribune and we’re glad to see that it’s looking great on the 3DS. The colors are crisp, the art style is well defined and the possibility of 3D graphics makes our heart beat a little faster.
