RetroStoresDallasIn today’s entry of Blast From the Past: A Guide to Local Retro Video Game Stores, we explore the metropolitan area of Dallas, Texas. Home to many prominent AAA game developers and publishers (Gearbox Software, id Software and Apogee Software, just to name a few), Dallas’ gaming roots run deep. One could even argue that the mainstream gaming industry’s inception happened in this very city, where the massively popular PC game, Doom, was created. With a deep history, it makes sense that retro gaming stores are thriving in this area. Similar to Fort Worth, massive chains like Movie Trading Company are everywhere (there are 9 stores just in the Dallas area). However, smaller and more family-oriented chains like Game Trade and the Console Game Exchange dominate Dallas suburbs like Frisco, Plano and Mesquite. ‘Exchange’ and similar play-on words seem to be popular in Dallas-specific retro game store names. Stores such as the FX Game Exchange (Plano) and Game X Change (Waxahachie) also exist. Holy ‘Game Exchange’, Batman!

Are we missing a retro game store from Dallas that’s not on this list? Do you have a story you’d like to share about visiting one of these stores? Feel free to let us know in the comments section!

I would Add Game Over in Arlingon and Found it Electronics in Watauga. Both have friendly staff and good selections of retro games.

Thanks for the recommendations, Antonio! I actually included these in the ‘Fort Worth’ article of ‘Blast From the Past’, and it can be found at the link below. I grew up about 5 minutes from ‘Found It Electronics’, and am beyond impressed with their selection of retro games they have. It is in such a quiet corner of Watauga as well, the average person might overlook it.
