The Alley of the Dolls is the latest installment in the franchise. The game starts in a kind of in media res to where Sam and Max are hiding in Stinky’s diner from a horde of Sam clones. This game is fairly interesting. It takes a kind of zombie apocalyptic setting combined with a mystery of what all is going down. The game focuses more on story than puzzle I feel and is once again not as innovative and new, but the story is really what pushes the game.

The Engineer Update is finally upon us. Yesterday, Valve started on the TF2 blog the beginning of the final class update, to our knowledge, the Engineer. The Engineer has been a long anticipated since the class updates began about two years ago. Finally here, so far Valve has shown a Golden Wrench which turns people into gold statues when killed by it. There is also a new TF2 comic they put up.

More on the Engineer update as it comes.

Puzzle Agent is the newest game by Telltale, known for being the current leaders in the point and click adventure genre, as you can surmise, Puzzle Agent is no different. Puzzle Agent is a game that basically follows the Professor Layton style of gameplay. Play through puzzles to get further in the story. The only difference is, is that Puzzle Agent is much shorter.
They Stole Max’s Brain is the third episodic game in the third season of the Sam and Max series, and while it is not the best so far, it is still a quality installment. They Stole Max’s Brain is definitely not innovative like the first two episodes and feels a lot more like filler; the bridge between the beginning and end of the series.
So, it accomplishes what it sets out to do, create a story bridge The basic premise is that after the events of last episode, Sam now must set out to find Max’s brain.

The Trauma Center series has been one of our favorite franchises here at VGTribune. I’ve played all the games in the series so I was very excited when we got Trauma Team in the mail. I didn’t know what to expect with Trauma Team before playing it and I was throughly surprised with Atlus’ new take on the franchise.
Trauma Center has always been a fast paced and difficult surgery game with an anime story. The characters are epic, the scenarios are horrifying and everything always seemed to be taken a step beyond reality. The games were always entertaining and fun and remain to be some of my favorite DS and Wii games.
Trauma Team decided to change that a bit. Now the franchise takes a much more realistic approach into the medical world in addition to providing totally new ways to play. Trauma Team is definitely a re-envisioning of the series. Much was gained and little was lost.
I know I am a little late with this review, but I have been busy lately, and unlike I expected, 3D Dot Game Heroes is not a quick game. Now, as of this point in time I have not fully completed the game, though I have played up through the fifth dungeon and feel I have a fairly good idea of what this game is about. Upon completion if I feel the need I will update the review with further opinion. Anyways, 3D Dot Game Heroes is probably one of the best retro style games I have played in a long time and below I will explain why.
So after a great first episode, the second episode is finally released and given to VGTribune by a gracious review copy from Telltale. So after battling a space ape in the first one, I was very interested in how the second episode would play out especailly due to the ending twist. I want to start off this review by saying that The Tomb of Sammun-Mak is far better than the first entry and a great game.
Atlus recently has sent me a review copy of 3D Dot Game Heroes so I figured I would share a bit of my experience with it. To begin, 3D Dot Game Heroes is exactly how it looks, like a 3D version of Zelda. So really the only question is, does the game bring enough innovative and uniqueness to this “Zelda upgrade” to make it not seem like a copy and cop out.
The game is really structured like The Legend of Zelda for the NES. You begin, a hero, with a sword (though yours is bigger) and you have to go from dungeon to dungeon collection orbs (Link to the Past anyone?). The dungeons are tile based (in that each room is square) and in the first dungeon, the hero even collects a boomerang. So by now you must be thinking, why don’t I just play the NES version, and this is how I want to defend 3D Dot Game Heroes, the game brings a sort of orginality to the mix. I will say the first dungeon is pretty standard but there is a lot more exploration in this game in addition to the fact that further dungeons become for challenging, present different magic elements, and have a more worldly feel to it. What I mean by that is there is that element of going to towns to collect information, increasing sword powers, etc. It is a lot more of a world experience than a dungeon hopping adventure. All in all though it really is a The Legend of Zelda upgrade with new dungeons, but that is not necessairly a bad thing.
Right now I think the gaming industry is going through “Re-Retrozation”, it is not the playing of old games, but the modern day franchises going back to their roots, i.e. Megaman 9 and 10, New Super Mario Bros. (and Wii), and the 2d Castlevania. Its the idea to use new technology with old retro classics to bring about a good game. And I think 3D Dot Game Heroes balances that perfectly. It does not totally copy Zelda (original level design and mostly original gameplay) and adds a modern age twist to it.
So for now, I would say that 3D Dot Game Heroes is a-go. It also releases May 11th so expect a review before then.
Telltale is back with another season of your two favorite freelance police, Sam and Max. I was actually really excited for this season even though I have not played all of season 1 or any of season 2, I still really enjoy these point and click adventure games and will probably play more after this experience. In fact I want to complete Sam and Max Season 1 and 2 before I play the next episode because I enjoyed this one so much. Anyways, onto the review.
The Navigator. Revealed earlier today the confirmed name for the Playstation Move subcontroller will be called the Navigator. The Navigator is basically what the nunchuck was for the Wii. An additional joystick for motion control. More information on the Playstation Move and Navigator as it comes!
